The Donald is Done

Business tycoon and billionaire Donald Trump has announced that he will not be running in the 2012 presidential election.

Trump, who is well-known for his trademark fiery temper and sharp tongue, was popular with the GOP early on and his popularity was on the rise.

After a series of morally dubious acts- including spreading false “birther” theories about the legitimacy of President Obama and engaging in expletive-filled rants about fellow GOP contenders, Trump’s popularity among the general population has been shaky.

Although still a font-runner in the republican primary, Trump declined to run, saying he preferred the private sector and wanted to return to hosting his show “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

This is Trump’s fourth time “flirting” with the idea of running for president according to CNN. (The other times were 1988, 2000, and 2004). Many speculate that he does it for TV ratings and to boost his image and name recognition with no real plans to become president.

People expect him to be gregarious and confident, and his bow-out speech stayed true to form, “I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election,” he said.
