It was confirmed Sunday evening that US marines killed Osama Bin Laden during a raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan after nearly 10 years of searching for America’s public enemy number one.

Contrary to previous reports, Bin Laden was not hiding in caves and traversing over rocky terrain; he was living comfortably in a mansion just a few miles from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

Pakistani officials are claiming that they were unaware of his presence, but some have questioned this, since the large compound stood out from anything else in the area, and was comparatively quite gaudy.

US officials tried to follow Islamic tradition by burying him within 24 hours of his death, but their methods met opposition because he was buried at sea and not in the ground. Some say this was acceptable because no one would receive his body and it is better to do a water burial than to leave the body unburied. Others have said it was disgraceful to “dump” a man’s body in the ocean.

Officials who were there say the proper prayers were read and he was eased into the ocean by a tilting board.

In all fairness, it’s not like he was thrown overboard wearing cement shoes. He got more respect in his burial than many feel he deserved.
