Fast Five Heists Top Spot at the Box Office

Posted on May 1, 2011

After looking at this past weekend’s box office results, apparently all it takes for success are a few good looking men running around on screen half-naked to get the job done.

Hollywood should know that by now. Well, Fast Five got the memo and brought in $83.6 million in their opening weekend.

Fast Five is the fifth movie in the Fast and the Furious series. It stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson kicking the crap out of each other, with some beautiful women in the mix to add sex appeal, and lots of fast paced car action scenes to top it all off.

The movie reportedly brought in more than half of the money spent on movie tickets this weekend, and earned nearly six times the amount of the number 2 film of the weekend, Rio.

Officials said the secret to the film’s success is its rebranding. It transitioned from a racing movie to a heist movie that takes viewers on a thrilling ride through international hot spots. Fast Five had the best opening weekend out of any other movie in the franchise.
