First Lady Obama Has In-Flight Scare

Posted on April 22, 2011

First Lady Michelle Obama’s plane had to abort a landing Monday, causing quite a scare.

The failed landing attempt was due to her plane’s proximity to a military plane in front of it. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires at least five miles of separation between planes to account for turbulence, which can alter a plane’ s travel.

The administration is stressing that there was no danger to Michelle Obama at any time, but they are taking the incident seriously.

“We consider any incident like this a serious incident,” Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said. “It’s under investigation, we will get to the bottom of what happened and how it happened, and obviously make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Officials commented that this incident is just another embarrassment to the FAA, which is currently under investigation.

This negative press isn’t helpful as they try to calm public concerns about flying that have been raised over the last few weeks.
